Created in 1736 as a university demonstration garden for teaching botany at medical and pharmacy colleges, it became one of the oldest botanical gardens in France over 200 years later. Today, it is a public garden with an orangery and greenhouses (8,000 species represented): a hot greenhouse with exotic plants (coffee, banana, vanilla, giant water lilies from Latin America, etc.), a temperate greenhouse, a cold greenhouse, and succulents.
